The presidential and parliamentary elections in Namibia will continue in almost 40 polling stations until Saturday. This is due to technical problems at these polling stations.

Some had no ballot papers, in others the equipment at digital evaluation stations did not work. There are a total of 4622 polling stations in the country. In the vast majority of them, counting began as soon as the polling stations closed on Thursday evening.

The candidate of the ruling Swapo party, Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, is considered the frontrunner in the presidential election in the southwest African country. She could become the first head of state of the former German colony. A good 1.4 million people - around half of the population - were called to cast their vote in the sparsely populated country. Results are expected in the coming days.
