The famous leather jacket of leading actress Olivia Newton-John from the hit musical "Grease" has been auctioned off in California for 476,000 dollars. This was six times the estimated price, according to the auction house Julien's.

The jacket came from the estate of the British-Australian actress and pop singer, who died of cancer in August 2022 at the age of 73.

Newton-John played the blonde, curly-haired Sandy in the 1978 high school musical, making the British-born actress a global star alongside John Travolta. She later stood in front of the camera on roller skates for the fantasy musical "Xanadu" and landed a number one hit with the album "Physical".

Over 400 items from the star's estate went under the hammer at the auction. A turquoise Steinway grand piano fetched over 158,000 dollars - it had previously been estimated at 8,000 dollars. A rhinestone-studded leather jacket with the inscription Olivia, which was worn by the singer at concert appearances, fetched more than 76,000 dollars.

Part of the proceeds from the auction will go to a cancer center she founded.
